چکیده

T h r e e methods for converting Airborne Visible/Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (A VIRIS) radiance data to apparent surface reflectance were compared using data collected over the Lunar Crater Volcanic Field in Nevada and the Pavant Butte tuff cone in Utah. The methods examined were the empirical line method, radiative transfer modeling (using LOWTRAN 7), and spectral mixture analysis using reference endmembers. Of the three, the empirical line and spectral mixture methods both provided good results. The approach utilizing LOWTRAN 7 accentuates noise inherent in A VIRIS data and requires a very accurate estimate of atmospheric water.

Nearshore Water Quality Estimation Using Atmospherically Corrected AVIRIS Data

The objective of the research is to characterize the surface spectral reflectance of the nearshore waters using atmospheric correction code—Tafkaa for retrieval of the marine water constituent concentrations from hyperspectral data. The study area is the nearshore waters of New York/New Jersey considered as a valued ecological, economic and recreational resource within the New York metropolitan...

Retrieval of Hyperspectral Surface Reflectance Based on Machine Learning

Many methods based on radiative-transfer models and empirical approaches with prior knowledge have been developed for the retrieval of hyperspectral surface reflectance. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for atmospheric correction of hyperspectral images based on machine learning. A support vector machine (SVM) is used for learning to predict the surface reflectance from the preprocess...

A Fast Smoothing Algorithm for Post-Processing of Surface Reflectance Spectra Retrieved from Airborne Imaging Spectrometer Data

Surface reflectance spectra retrieved from remotely sensed hyperspectral imaging data using radiative transfer models often contain residual atmospheric absorption and scattering effects. The reflectance spectra may also contain minor artifacts due to errors in radiometric and spectral calibrations. We have developed a fast smoothing technique for post-processing of retrieved surface reflectanc...

Retrieval of subpixel snow-covered area and grain size from imaging spectrometer data

We describe and validate an automated model that retrieves subpixel snow-covered area and effective grain size from Airborne Visible/ Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS) data. The model analyzes multiple endmember spectral mixtures with a spectral library of snow, vegetation, rock, and soil. We derive snow spectral endmembers of varying grain size from a radiative transfer model; spectra for...

A comparison of empirical and neural network approaches for estimating corn and soybean leaf area index from Landsat ETM+ imagery

Plant foliage density expressed as leaf area index (LAI) is used in many ecological, meteorological, and agronomic models, and as a means of quantifying crop spatial variability for precision farming. LAI retrieval using spectral vegetation indices (SVI) from optical remotely sensed data usually requires site-specific calibration values from the surface or the use of within-scene image informat...
